Capitaline was founded on a wealth of investment experience. In farming, investing, entrepreneurship and in building and operating successful companies. Our Principals are as comfortable in boots as we are in suits, having grown up on the very farmland we now invest in.

The bronze statue (pictured to the right) sits in front of Capitaline’s Headquarters on Main Street of Brookings, South Dakota. The statue, titled “Somewhere West of Wall Street” depicts a hardworking cowboy, sitting with his golden retriever, reading the Wall Street Journal.

Our Main Office

Capitaline’s headquarters are in the beautifully restored Historic Train Depot in Brookings. Being this close to the center of the Western Corn Belt means we are directly connected to the agricultural community. To better understand the value of the land – we remain tied to it.

Being this close to the heart of the Midwest gives us the unique insight which has allowed us to build crucial relationships within the Farming & Bio-Fuel Community. These relationships in turn, give us unique insight and vision for agricultural investment opportunities that create value in our nation’s most valuable asset – America’s farmland.

The Capitaline Story

The Capitaline Team is a group of experienced investment professionals who grew up in the very Midwestern rural environment we now invest in. We are farmers, investors, entrepreneurs and experienced in the operation for successful businesses. We are as comfortable in the field as we are in the boardroom, and this experience informs all our investment decisions.

Inspired by the Capitaline Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, our name is a reflection of our classical values. In ancient times, the Capitaline Hill served as the center of Roman Leadership and governance. Today Capitaline is a leader in U.S. Farmland and Agribusiness investing.

Formed in 2002, this experience has borne fruit, and has been over the last decade demonstrated by our many successes in farmland, agribusiness, renewable energy and financial services.

The Espontoon

Capitaline’s logo is an Espontoon. This broad-headed spear was used to defend the Roman empire for hundreds of years. It later evolved as symbol of military leadership and was carrried by battlefield commanders up to and through the American Revolution. General Washington and his officers were said to have rallied under the Espontoon, which gave them great confidence in battle.

In 1804, while leading the Lewis and Clark expedition up Missouri river, Captain Meriwether Lewis carried his espontoon into the Dakotas, opening up the region for settlement. An Espontoon now stands in Capitaline’s office, as an enduring symbol of leadership and discovery.
