Principal Saint Paul Office
Mr. Ommen serves as Principal for Capitaline Advisors which he founded in 2002. Mr. Ommen has more than 25 years of experience in banking, investing, building and managing successful businesses. He began his executive career in 1989 as President, Chief Executive Officer and director of Coastal Virginia Bank in Virginia Beach . Three years later he was named to a similar role with Fishback Financial Corporation, a multi-bank holding company located in Brookings , S.D. In 1997, he took on additional duties as President and director of First National Venture Capital, a venture capital subsidiary of First National Bank, a bank located in Brookings , S.D.
In 2004, Mr. Ommen, Capitaline, and a group of investors launched US BioEnergy Corporation, a producer and marketer of ethanol and distillers grains. In December 2005, Mr. Ommen became the CEO and Chairman of the Board of US BioEnergy. In December 2006, US BioEnergy launched a successful IPO trading on the NASDAQ Global Market. By 2008, US BioEnergy had grown to a fleet of five operating plants producing 420 million gallons of ethanol a year.
In April 2008, US BioEnergy and VeraSun Energy merged and Mr. Ommen assumed the leadership of the VeraSun's Board of Directors as non-executive Chairman of the Board. By the end of 2008, the company expects to have 16 production facilities in operation with a capacity of approximately 1.64 billion gallons, making VeraSun the largest ethanol producer in the United States. VeraSun Energy trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol VSE. On April 30, 2008, Mr. Ommen resigned as non-executive Chairman of the Board for VeraSun to focus on the activities of Capitaline as Principal. Mr. Ommen was named a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2007. He holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in economics from South Dakota State University , where he has served as an adjunct professor of Economics. |
